COVID-19 and Crisis Responder Training Update

A quick word from our fearless director, John…3/24/2020

The stressors and uncertainties Idahoans are facing as a result of the COVID 19 crisis mean the Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline’s services are as critical as ever to support people who are struggling.  I want to assure you that our critical services to callers will continue without interruption.

The Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline, by Jannus, Inc., is still open 24 hours a day 7 days a week serving Idahoans.  Because of our dedication to providing a safe environment for staff and volunteers, only paid staff who are implementing safe distancing practices are taking calls.  All outreach events for the next several weeks have also been cancelled. 

The Hotline is exploring options for volunteers to provide caller support from the safety of their homes. We want to thank our partners for their continued support during this challenging time.

Crisis Phone Responder Training Update…3/24/2020

Thank you for your patience on the Crisis Phone Responder Spring training notification. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic and our policy of safety and self-care for our volunteers and staff, ISPH has decided to cancel this training session.

Please know, we are continuing to keep the phone lines open during this pandemic with supervisors only in the phone room attending to our help-seekers, while we work on a system to work remotely that would also include our current volunteers.

We hope you are keeping safe as we all work together to prevent the spread of the virus by following the recommendations of the CDC, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

Crisis Line Update

ISPH is committed supporting our callers at this time! Due to social distancing recommendations, only paid staff will be responding to calls to the hotline  for the next 2 weeks. We’ve asked our volunteer responders to stay home during that time to protect everyone’s health  Please keep in mind that this will lower the number of phone responders available to take calls, so your calls to 1-800-273-8255  may be routed another center in the lifeline network. If you call our local voice number 208-398-4357, you may need to leave a voicemail, and one of our responders will call you back shortly. The capacity of the ISPH crisis text and chat response is also reduced at this time. You can also reach out to the Crisis Text Line at 741741 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s chat portal at suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat for crisis text/ chat response .
